General Info:

Seasons
Legends currently has separate leagues is all four seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer-Fairfax Only).  Fall Season generally starts in September, Winter Season in December, Spring Season in April, and Summer Season in June.  Summer Season is co-ed only, while all other seasons have divisions specified below.

Uniforms
All players receive a high quality basketball uniform including a reversable jersey (for home and away) with pre-designated number. When you join Legends, you only purchase the uniform once, as it can be worn during subsequent seasons.

Game Length
Games are scheduled for 1 hour including two 20-22 minute halfs, depending on time available on a given night.  If tied, a 3-minute overtime will be allowed.

Teams
Participating players will be assigned to a team with the notion of creating equal strengths of teams.  If you desire to play on a particular team or with a friend, specify that on the registration and every effort will be made to accommodate you.  We strive to have no more than 8 players per team (9 for women's division) unless desired by the coach.

Age Limits
Men must be at least 28 years old by Opening Night, while women must be 19.

Divisions (Currently Fairfax Only, but not Summer)

For the Fairfax League, we currently, have three Men's divisions (Elite, A, and B) and one Women's Division for all seasons but summer which is co-ed only.  If you are a more advanced player, please request Elite or A Divisions when registering.  Following is a description of the Men's divisions to assist you in requesting placement:

  • Elite - Usually has significant high school or college team experience, and/or played in competitive leagues.

  • "A"   -  Usually has some high school team experience and/or played in competitive leagues.

  • "B"   -  Generally recreational play.

The Inaugural Prince William League will start with only one men's division, but will add new divisions as participants increase.

Referees
Generally, two referees will oversee each men's game, at least one referee for the women's games, and a clock will be manned.  If you have referee experience or would like to learn, and are interested in refereeing, contact us for further information.

Playoffs!
Although the league downplays heavy competition and stresses fun, let's be honest - we all like to win!  To satisfy our need to “Be a Legend”, a single elimination tournament will be held at the end of the season. All teams are in the playoffs regardless of regular season records, but will be seeded based on regular season record. Trophies will be awarded to the winning team in each division.

Refunds

Refunds (minus administrative fee of 10%) can only be given 2 weeks prior to the start of the season.  This is necessary because of the nature ordering uniforms and/or confirming rosters.

Injuries

If you are injured during the first three weeks of the season and cannot play the remaining season, you can receive a $50 credit towards your next season.  You may also transfer this credit to any new player to the league.

Please note: To keep costs down for our players, Legends does not purchase excess accident medical coverage for injury to participants.  Please make sure your own insurance covers any injury you may have.

Closings
Please be sure to check the inclement weather gym closing hotline when bad weather is imminent.  Closings could be due snow and rain, but also any weather that causes power outages such as high winds. In case of closings, the message will be updated regularly. The hotline number is: 800-839-FCPS (3277).  Every effort will be made to make up canceled games, but sometimes the seasonal schedule will not allow for it.  $20 credits per game will be provided for canceled games above the first two if not made-up.
